i had a conversation with my lunch date today and i mentioned that i had a blog and he thought it was an unusual thing to have and i mentioned it was anonymous and what i wrote about and he said he could find a search engine and probably find it given the things i told him - and well - i feel hugely vulnerable about my past entries and have deleted them.

turned out that i just deleted past posts that i felt were really very private - and will keep the rest for now. will still blog in same way - but didn't need past experience with ex sitting there anyway - time to move on!

Unusual? Looking at all the blogs out there, i'd say it was getting to the point where it's more unusual if you don't have a blog!

that's true actually - also i am growing into my blog - its been amazing to have this private place to communicate with and to read others pouring out, too -

If you type your name into google it will show up on the listings and people can then look at what you have written and where....so its not private...hence people that do not want to be traced that way usually use their nickname in their profile rather than their actual name .....DD

This is quite true DD.
The Internet is not a very private place at all Snaphappy, so if you you didn't want those posts to be avaialable then you probably made the right decision in deleting them.

i know it isn't all that safe - but there is a feeling about having a blog anonymously that has been so freeing - i never really thought about whether it made me vulnerable. at the end of the day yesterday i realised that the things i deleted were just my story - i am who i am. i deleted them to make me feel more comfortable but i'm going to keep writing for now

Good! There is as you say something a bit special about anonymity ,however fragile, and self expression.

Hey, had a thought about this a few weeks ago. My nickname that I blog under is a nickname that I use for other stuff too....got really scared about it....haven't gone as far as deleting stuff though. Glad that KD is not your real name as would be a bit reckless to use it.
Also made me start to think about the stuff I put down, should I be more cagey? and I think it has made me a bit more secretive - I find myself not putting down what I think about some things in case people read it...not good really, not at all.-

not good i agree - because the whole beauty of this process is to be authentic - and i feel like being able to just be 'out there' with aspects of my life or whats in my head or heart has lead me to peace of mind. don't be cagey! go for it.

TOO SAFE IS OK -Don't put anything on your blog that might upset or offend any of your immediate family. Think first not later - which might be too late!

we have to strike that fine balance, and I'm glad you say that we need some authenticity in our blogs...I agree with you.
but also, the point of expressing ourselves, sometimes privately, does make us more vulnerable...but that is part of blogging I guess.
the blog is OURS so if you write it, or delete it, that is our world, our space, and statement.
also interested to read what you say about growing into your blog; I think we all are to varying degrees, and it's a nice feeling isn't it! -

Oh, I'm pleased you haven't left totally.
I'm off to try out some things on Google now and see how easy it would be to find me...
xx
What a pity !
